The Three Reasons You Start Smoking

Jan 22, 2018 | 0 comments

Quitting smoking can be hard. Most smokers could kick themselves for smoking that first cigarette and wish they had never started. Which begs the question, why did you start?

Three Reasons You Start Smoking

There are three main reasons most people start smoking.

1. To identify or connect with an authority figure

You may have started smoking to identify with a parent, a favorite Uncle, or someone else in your life that represents an Authority to you.

2. To identify or connect with a peer group

Many people find themselves wanting to be like their friends, or a group of people they want ot be friends with. The “cool” kids.

3. To take control or rebel against an authority figure

Often Teens start smoking to rebel against the authority in their life. For many that start smoking later in life (older than 20), it’s about taking control in a situation where they feel out of control

You may find yourself in one or more of the categories above. In the end, all three of these reasons that people begin to smoke are really about one thing – Feeling safe and secure.

The Subconscious Mind

90% of your behaviours – breath, heart beat, habits, etc –  all of these are controlled by your subconscious mind who has one job – to keep you safe and secure. Safe and secure doesn’t necessarily mean comfortable or healthy. The main reason people find it hard to quit smoking is that, at a deep level, it makes them feel safe and secure. What if you were able to convince the subconscious mind that it no longer served you to smoke? What if you could become as if you had never smoked?

Smoking Cessation with Hypnosis

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests it will take 8 to 11 attempts before finding success. A typical smoker will try a variety of approaches: cold turkey, nicotine replacement (nicotine patch, nicotine gum, etc), medications (Chantix, Wellbutrin, etc), or even e-cigarettes. After a smoker has tried everything else, they use Hypnosis. Research shows that the success rate for Hypnosis can rise above 80% when done correctly, as compared to cold turkey (5%), Chantix (14%), or nicotine replacement products (25%)

When you work with me to let go of smoking we use a three session protocol over a period of three weeks to get at the core issues of your habit and release it. We allow your subconscious mind to choose which date to quit, either at the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd session. I find that the more motivated and intelligent you are, the easier it is for you to let go.

Letting go of smoking is one of the most powerful changes you make in your life. Use Hypnosis to make the change easy.
